POSITION OVERVIEW

Conference Housing Assistants (CHAs) and Conference Housing Assistant Team Leaders (CHA-TLs) provide hospitality services and support to guests staying overnight in residence halls while attending summer camps and conferences at UNC Charlotte.

CHAs and CHA-TLs work together in teams to complete assigned tasks. CHA-TLs will have additional leadership responsibilities which are listed here. Core responsibilities for both roles include room preparation and teardown, guest check-in and check-out, key management, inventory control, administrative duties, staffing 24-hour service desks, and providing in-person support to conference participants as part of a 24-hour on-call rotation.

Each CHA and CHA-TL is placed on a team supervised by an REC (Residence Education Coordinator), a full-time professional staff member in HRL. Each team will manage the core responsibilities for approximately 7-10 overnight events. While the primary focus of these positions is supporting the Summer Conference Housing program, staff may occasionally assist with other departmental needs. The Assistant Director for Conferences oversees the Summer Conference Housing program and collaborates with campus partners to support program operations.

Employment Dates: May 18 - August 1, 2026.
Job responsibilities may require a work extension from August 2-7, 2026. Work extensions will be required for any students who do not have a Fall 2026 work assignment as an RA, DA, or HA. Compensation for those who work from August 2-7 will be paid out at the position’s daily rate.

Work Schedule:
Staff will average approximately 20 hours per week. Work hours will include a combination of traditional and non-traditional shifts, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and occasionally holidays. Weekly schedules will vary, and a consistent, recurring schedule cannot be guaranteed. Flexibility in availability is required to be a successful member of the team. Please review the Job Qualifications section below for additional details regarding student availability while enrolled in summer courses.

CHA JOB DESCRIPTION

A full list of CHA job duties are outlined in the CHA Detailed Job Description.

CHA MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to work from May 18 - August 1, 2026.
  • Ability to participate in all virtual/in-person training sessions May 18 - 22, 2026.
  • Must have been enrolled in Spring 2026 and Fall 2026 classes at UNC Charlotte.

  • If enrolling in summer classes:
    • Students may enroll in a maximum of 3 credit hours during any summer term (first half or second half) for courses that require in-person and/or scheduled online attendance. If a course spans the full summer term, students may enroll in a maximum of 3 credit hours for the entire summer.
    • Enrollment in 100% asynchronous courses is not limited, as long as the course load does not interfere with job commitments or assigned duties.
    • Students may not enroll in summer courses that conflict with assigned work hours.
    • Night classes and 100% asynchronous courses are strongly preferred. All summer course schedules must be approved by the Assistant Director for Conferences.
