POSITION OVERVIEW
The Department of Housing and Residence Life employs students as Building Environmental Services (BES) Summer Custodial Staff during the summer to support its custodial needs. The main responsibilities of the BES Summer Custodial Staff is to help clean the residence halls from students moving out during the academic year. This includes student rooms, apartments, and suites, community bathrooms, hallways, stairs, lounges, laundry rooms, etc. Staff will also be asked to remove trash from exterior trash cans and trash rooms, and appropriately dispose of trash in dumpsters. Staff will be asked to perform cleaning tasks such as vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, dusting, and disinfecting.
Staff selected must be able to pick up objects weighing 21-50 pounds, and physical activities include stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, repetitive motions and visual acuity.
This is a 40 hour per week position from May 12, 2025-August 16, 2025. Some weekend work may also be required in May and August.

BENEFITS PACKAGE
- $14.00/hour. Students must sign up for direct deposit.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Be in good academic standing (2.0 cumulative GPA).
- Be in good judicial standing: must not be on conduct probation.
- Must be a current UNC Charlotte student or recent graduate.
- Must be able to work the first three weeks and the last three weeks of the summer work schedule. Exceptions to this can only be made by special request to the supervisor.
- The Building Environmental Services (BES) Summer Custodial Staff position is to be the principal non-academic activity. Additional social/community and/or extracurricular activities must be approved in advance.
- Some positions require driving a utility cart or truck. If so, a valid, U.S. driver's license and insurance is required.
GENERAL DUTIES
- Clean bathrooms, kitchens, bedrooms, hallways, and lounges
- Vacuum carpets.
- Mop floors
- Remove trash and recycling and dispose of in corresponding dumpsters.
- Move supplies from one building to another
- Dust furniture, light fixtures, and other services
- Disinfect spaces.
- Use large and/or heavy equipment such as a pallet jack, carpet scrubber, extractor, buffer, etc.
- Move dumpsters in and out of trash rooms.
- Display positive customer service skills at all times.
- Act as a positive ambassador for the University and the Department of Housing and Residence Life.
- Provide support for Housing Operations and hall staff in preparation for Fall Opening.
- Other duties as assigned.
