Niner Choice Program

What the Niner Choice Program IS:

The Niner Choice Program is a safety education initiative designed to help students and their families make informed decisions about off-campus living options. The program is a partnership between Housing and Residence Life, the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department, and UNC Charlotte Police and Public Safety. The program was created in 2013 and was relaunched in 2019 and have continued to add new partners to the program each year. Complexes that join the program will need to meet and adhere to specific safety standards and record-keeping, and not meet or exceed established crime thresholds.

What the Niner Choice Program IS NOT:

The Niner Choice Program is not a stamp of approval or endorsement from the University or CMPD. While our goal is to build and maintain authentic relationships with student-serving properties, please note all participating properties are individually owned and managed. OCSS (nor the University) do not have influence over their business practices.

Niner Choice Properties

The Green Standard indicates the property meets the minimum safety requirements for participation in the program. The Gold Standard indicates the property meets all of the Green Standard requirements as well as 5 of the 11 enhanced safety features. (Provisional indicates recent changes in property management and/or pending reassessment of the property.) Additional details can be found here.
