Why did you choose to be an RA or DA and what has been the most fulfilling part of your experience?

I chose to become a Desk Assistant because I wanted to be a resource and support system for  other students, especially those who might be adjusting to college life for the first time. I  remembered how much of a difference it made to have someone approachable and helpful  around during my own transition, and I wanted to provide that same sense of comfort and  community to others.

How do you manage your academics, leadership roles, and extracurriculars with your RA or DA job?

Balancing academics, leadership roles, extracurriculars, and my responsibilities as a DA has  definitely taught me the importance of time management and setting priorities. I use a  planner and digital calendar to stay organized and map out my week in advance, making  sure I dedicate time to my coursework while also fulfilling my job responsibilities and  participating in student organizations. I've learned to set boundaries, communicate clearly  with my supervisors and team, and ask for support when needed.

How has the RA or DA role developed you personally and professionally?

Serving as a Resident Advisor last year and a Desk Assistant this year has significantly  contributed to my personal and professional growth. As an RA, I developed strong  leadership and communication skills while learning how to support residents and fostering

a positive community. Transitioning to a DA role allowed me to strengthen my  organizational abilities and customer service skills while maintaining a connection to  student life. Both roles have deepened my understanding of student needs and campus  dynamics, which directly supports my career goals as an educator. These experiences have  shaped my character, resilience, and commitment to helping others grow.
