Quarantine (Greek Village) is for people who may have been exposed to COVID-19. Quarantine helps prevent spread of disease that can occur before a person knows they are sick or if they are infected with the virus without feeling symptoms.
Isolation (Maple Hall) is for people who have tested positive for COVID-19, or are presumed to be positive. Isolation means keeping them separated from people who do not have it/no symptoms. People who are awaiting tests may be asked to isolate in place in their current room if they are able while awaiting test results. Those living in Holshouser, Sanford, and Scott Halls may not be allowed to isolate in place pending results.
- Residents are allowed to return home to their permanent residence for Q/I if they can safely do so. Residents who choose to return home for Q/I will not be allowed back onto campus until they are cleared by the Student Health Center.
- Residents who remain on campus will relocate to a temporary location. These locations were selected because they meet CDC requirements for Q/I housing, as well as allow for contactless moves that do not require or promote contact between other residents or university staff.
- The Quarantine location is separate from the Isolation location. Close contacts will not be placed in spaces with confirmed positive cases.
- Quarantine rooms include a private bedroom and private bathroom for each person.
- Isolation space is in an apartment style building with private bedrooms and bathrooms shared with up to 3 others of the same gender.
On-campus temporary Quarantine and Isolation housing will be available for on-campus residents only. There are no additional housing charges for quarantine/isolation housing.
So, how does it work?
- Once identified that a resident needs to quarantine or isolate, they will be contacted by the Student Health Center and/or contact tracers to go through important information. Its important to regularly check your UNCC email and answer all calls for updates!
- Residents will then be contacted by an HRL staff member to coordinate their move into Q/I housing.
- If you are locked out of your Q/I space:
- Contact the Martin Hall 24hr Desk (704-687-6131) if you are locked out. Inform them that you are residing in Q/I housing and someone will be dispatched out to you. Do not go to a loan key desk.
- An administrative fee will be billed to your student account if you need assistance for a lockout.
On the date of your potential clearance, the Student Health Center will contact you directly to discuss any symptoms and/or next steps. The Student Health Center will tell you at that time if you are cleared for release. Once they clear you, you are free to leave.
- Bag ALL your trash and place it outside of the door.
- DO NOT leave any food in the fridge or sitting out. Take it or throw it away.
- Look for a roll of plastic trash bags in any drawers/cabinets within the unit if they arent sitting out in plain view.
- If you used any of the supplied bedding/towels, bag it and leave it in the bedroom you stayed in.
- Pack all your personal items. We encourage you to take all remaining food/snacks.
- Leave the key
- Greek Village quarantine: leave it on the desk inside the bedroom.
- Maple isolation: leave it on the designated hook at the apartment door.
- The Niner Transit COVID Shuttle will be provided if residents do not have a personal vehicle on campus or are unable to walk. Actual transportation times are limited to Monday - Friday 11:00 AM - 4:45 PM; Saturday/Sunday 12:00 PM - 3:45 PM. Please work with your HRL contact to coordinate transportation.
Please understand the following:
- HRL staff cannot clear you, you must wait for contact from the Student Health Center.
- We do not know the exact time you will be called, however, students are usually cleared in the morning hours.
Unless you have class, please try to vacate the room within an hour of being cleared, if you cannot, please notify your HRL contact of your plans.
