Why did you choose to be an RA and what has been the most fulfilling part of your experience?
I chose to be an RA because I found so much joy living on campus during my freshman year and wanted to be in a position where I could help others have the same positivity in their experience. Being an RA has allowed me to become a part of an amazing community of not just fellow RA's, but also residents who I've helped to impact. It's very fulfilling to see residents you met at the start of their college career become very successful on campus.
How do you manage your academics, leadership roles, and extracurriculars with your Resident Advisor job?
Being a Resident Advisor can be time-consuming, however, staying on top of your scheduling can make it easy to navigate everything. I utilize a Google Calendar and make sure it stays up to date so I know where I have room to get things done. The RA role is also very flexible in that we schedule a lot of things ourselves so I'm able to make everything fit in my schedule and if I need help I can reach out to my co-RA's.
How has the Resident Advisor role developed you personally and professionally?
The Resident Advisor role has made me a lot more confident in my leadership competencies. Through this role, I've also been able to develop administrative, artistic, and social skills while also making lifelong bonds with people in the community. The RA role culminates many different skills and has helped develop me into a well-rounded person and professional.
