Why did you choose to be an RA or DA and what has been the most fulfilling part of your experience?
I chose to become an Resident Advisor because I was admitted on wanting to make a positive impact on the student community and help others feel welcomed and supported especially during what can be a challenging transition to college life. I was drawn to the opportunity to be a resource, a role model, and a point of connection for residents navigating both personal
and academic challenges. My freshman RA was a great example and what I inspire to replicate to other students and residents that come here to UNC Charlotte.
How do you manage your academics, leadership roles, and extracurriculars with your RA or DA job?
Balancing academics, leadership roles, extracurriculars with my RA Job and responsibilities requires strong time management, organization, and prioritization. I use a planner and digital calendar to map out my class schedule, meetings, duty shifts, and deadlines, which helps me stay ahead and avoid any last minute stress.
I also set aside dedicated time each week for selfcare and rest to avoid burnout. Self care is very important so you don’t lose who you are while doing a job that you are committed to.
Along with that I use all my resources here on campus like going to the UREC to pick up a little Pilates and yoga classes. That really helps calm the mind in order to do more things then you think.
How has the RA or DA role developed you personally and professionally?
The role of being a Resident Advisor has influenced me to be a personable, productive and supportive person. The ability to work with an amazing team to plan events, conquer conflicts and support our residents is something that helped to shape me today and be the best resident advisor I can be for my residents.
