Why did you choose to be an RA or DA and what has been the most fulfilling part of your experience?
I chose to become an RA because I was inspired by my freshman year RA. I witnessed first hand how kind and caring she was to residents. I remember how lost and confused I was my first few months on campus, and she helped me transition to college life well. She was always welcoming, helpful, and I enjoyed the events that she threw. She told me about the role and gave me the confidence to apply for the RA position. The most fulfilling part of my experience is getting to meet new people and help them to feel a sense of belonging on campus. I love to talk about different events and clubs around campus, and I have helped many residents become more involved here.
How do you manage your academics, leadership roles, and extracurriculars with your RA or DA job?
Organization has always been important to me, and I am able to manage my academics, leadership roles, and extracurriculars by organizing my calendar. I put my daily schedule in google calendar, as well as hand write all of my events and deadlines down in a planner. I like having them on the calendar, but I also enjoy checking tasks off in my planner. I am able to stay on top of my schedule through this practice. I started writing everything down in my planner in high school and I have found much success from this practice.
How has the RA or DA role developed you personally and professionally?
Both the RA and the DA role have helped me to develop personally and professionally because I have been able to learn more about myself through this role. I have learned new leadership, organization, and communication skills. I feel that this will help me in my professional career and my personal life because I am better able to help and communicate with my coworkers and different people. I am grateful for my time spent in these roles.
