Why did you choose to be an RA or DA and what has been the most fulfilling part of your experience?
I chose to be an RA because I wanted to create a supportive and inclusive environment where residents feel seen, heard, and valued. As someone who understands how challenging transitions can be, especially in the first year of college, I wanted to be a resource and a steady presence for others. The most fulfilling part of my experience has been the genuine connections I’ve built with residents. Whether it's having meaningful late night conversations, helping someone through a tough day, or watching residents grow into confident community members, those moments remind me why I chose this role. Being an RA has not only allowed me to support others but has also helped me grow as a leader, communicator, and advocate.
How do you manage your academics, leadership roles, and extracurriculars with your RA or DA job?
I manage my academics, leadership roles, and extracurriculars alongside my RA position by staying organized, setting clear priorities, and being intentional with my time. I use Google Calendar to track assignments, events, and RA responsibilities, which helps me stay ahead and avoid last-minute stress. Being involved in SEASA has taught me how to balance multiple commitments while still making time for self-care and community. I’ve learned to recognize when I need to step back and recharge, which helps me stay grounded and effective in all my roles. Ultimately, I see my RA role, academics, and extracurriculars as interconnected parts of my growth, and I make sure to give each the attention it deserves.
How has the RA or DA role developed you personally and professionally?
The RA role has helped me grow both personally and professionally by strengthening my leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills. Personally, I’ve become more confident in my ability to handle challenging situations, build meaningful connections, and promote an inclusive community. I’ve learned how important it is to listen actively and adapt to the needs of others while maintaining balance in my own life. Professionally, this role has prepared me for future teamwork and leadership opportunities by teaching me how to manage responsibilities, resolve conflicts, and collaborate effectively with peers and supervisors. It has truly shaped me into a more empathetic, organized, and resourceful individual.
