Why did you choose to be an RA or DA and what has been the most fulfilling part of your experience?

I chose to be an RA because I thought it looked like a good opportunity to make  connections on campus but also help me step out of my comfort zone and develop skills  such as crisis management and leadership. The most fulfilling part of being an RA has been  the relationships I have built with residents and my co-RA's as well as knowing I have made  a positive impact on someone's college experience and helped them to not feel alone.

How do you manage your academics, leadership roles, and extracurriculars with your RA or DA job?

I manage my academics, leadership roles, and extracurriculars with my RA job by making  sure to write down all my responsibilities in a planner and making sure I am giving myself  the time to complete every task I need to complete. At the beginning of every week I write

down all the tasks I need to complete by the end of the week and start checking them off as I  finish a task. I also schedule some self care time so I do not feel overwhelmed by all my  responsibilities and make sure I am taking care of my mental health.

How has the RA or DA role developed you personally and professionally?

The RA role has helped me develop professionally by teaching me important skills such as  incident report writing, filing out paperwork, desk operations, and other professional  workplace skills that will benefit me in the future. Personally, the RA role has helped me  step out of my comfort zone, truly integrate myself in the community, and make  connections with new people on campus I would not have had the opportunity to or the  confidence for prior to the RA role.
