What is a Residence Education Coordinator?

Residence Education Coordinators (RECs) are entry-level professional staff members who live and work in our residence halls supervising student staff and managing the day to day operations of a residence hall.

RECs serve as student development educators focused on the growth and development of students in their residence hall.  RECs support growth and development through a variety of different issues and using a wide array of strategies.  From assisting first year students with their transition to college life, to helping to mediate roommate conflicts, to challenging students to think about the short and longer term implication of their choices in the context of a student conduct meeting, to providing a safe environment for students to learn about themselves and others, RECs play a crucial role in the development of individuals and communities on campus. RECs also assist students by serving in an on-call crisis response role, 10-14 days a semester.

While no two days are alike, RECs spend most of their time supervising and developing staff, assisting students, implementing our residential curriculum (our educational priorities are: student engagement, life skills, and intercultural competence), attending departmental meetings, facilitating the leadership workshop series for residential students, advising the hall leadership teams, and facilitating departmental processes.

The most qualified candidates will be invited to schedule an informational interview with us either at The Placement Exchange (TPE) or via phone/video (for those not participating in TPE).  Day-long on-campus interviews will begin in early April.

Our goal is to fill our positions by late May with a late June start date.
