Why did you choose to be an RA and what has been the most fulfilling part of your experience?
I became a Resident Advisor because my freshman-year Resident Advisor made Charlotte feel like home and provided support when I needed it most. Seeing how he impacted my experience and how my friend became a positive influence as a Resident Advisor inspired me to do the same. Being able to connect with my residents and offer them guidance has been incredibly rewarding. The most fulfilling part is staying connected with them and continuing to provide support, even after they’ve moved on.
How do you manage your academics, leadership roles, and extracurriculars with your Resident Advisor job?
It’s all about time management! During my time as an RA, I balanced multiple Greek leadership roles, including Sorority President and Council President, by staying organized and planning my week in advance. Open communication with my supervisors was key to ensuring I could meet all my responsibilities. By staying proactive and setting priorities, I managed to maintain a healthy balance between academics, the Resident Advisor role, leadership, and extracurriculars.
How has the Resident Advisor role developed you personally and professionally?
The Resident Advisor role has developed my leadership and communication skills, helping me connect with people from different backgrounds. I’ve improved my time management and conflict resolution abilities, which are valuable post-grad. It also taught me to be adaptable, handling a variety of challenges. Overall, the experience has reinforced the importance of empathy and community building in both personal and professional settings.
