I became an RA to strengthen my sense of leadership and take initiative in building community. Being an RA is the most professional role I have held. Before this I had never had to make a phone call to a supervisor or fill out a report, so my first shift and my first fire alarm on duty were intimidating. However, getting through them gave me confidence I did not have before, and as an aspiring adolescent psychologist, being part of a support system means a lot to me. My given responsibilities have helped me grow as an individual by improving my balance, patience, and advocacy.
